Gears of War 3 Review

After a near 3 years of wait. Marcus Fenix and crew are back yet again to finish what has become one of the most successful games in this console generation. It built its reputation with the cover system and ferocious violence.

Gears of War 3 is an awesome game, the story mode will last you a good 10 hours or so. Like in every Gears, there has been the option for to play in coop split screen. In Gears of War 3 you can now have a full team of 4 players playing through the campaign. The new arcade variant, awards points when you play and then adds them up at the end of each chapter. This added sense of competition is a nice touch. It forces you to go after high value targets and you are also looking for ways to stay ahead.

Competitive multiplayer sticks to groups of 8-10 across a diverse set of ten maps. There are six game modes all together and all of them are a lot of fun. Gears of War doesn’t reward you with killstreks, there are also no custom load outs or perks. Instead it gives you a list of starter weapons to choose from.

Horde mode returns. It challenges a group of five players to try to stay alive while killing 50 waves of enemy’s. On every tenth wave there’s a boss battle which adds a certain amount of difficulty. You can invest in defenses like for instance you can build spike strips or even setup a decoy. Horde mode is in my opinion is one of the best modes. It provides a lot of intense action which is always fun.

There is also a beast mode, where players take a roll of a locust creature. Trying to kill all of the humans and breach their defenses. There is a variety of creatures you can control and it is very important to keep the team diverse, because every creature has its own abilities. There are only a dozen rounds to complete, but the mode is fun as all of the others, and will keep player to come back for more every time.

There are a lot of new weapons that have their own special finishing moves. There is a Retro Lancer that has a lot of recoil so you have to fire in burst shoots. So every weapon is unique and takes time to master. Teamwork is very important in multiplayer it result either your team winning or losing.

Gears of War series have never disappointed us. Every game provided us with a lot of hours of playing. Gears of War 3 is no different, with the new game modes and an epic experience it’s sure to satisfy your every need. All I can say for the end is: Good job Epic, you’ve outdone yourselves :D
